When to use a Regenerative DC Drive vs Reversible DC Drive

 When we have to decide whether to use a Reversible (Reversing with electro-mechanical contactors) DC Drive or a Regenerative (Reversing electronically -NO electro-mechanical parts) DC Drive (even though both are good) we need to know first the Following:

1. How often the Motor needs to move backwards? Is it just from time to time?
2. Does the motor only reverse direction occasionally and does NOT require active, controlled slowing down under heavy loads?
3. Does the Motor can Stop before shifting?
4. You DO NOT need Fast Reversing
5. Are you OK with Electro-Mechanical contactors and an AAPB (Anti-plug Board)?
6. Budget is the primary constraint?

IF you answered YES to those questions then you could use a REVERSIBLE DC DRIVE.

BUT if your machine needs to move back and forward all the time.

• Your machine needs to stop and start frequently
• Your machine requires fast Reversing.
• Your Machine needs to keep moving and reversing fast.
• You do NOT want Electro-Mechanical parts.
• The Loads are Overhauling.

Then Your machine needs a REGENERATIVE DC DRIVE.
