YES! You can Run a 3-Phase 230VAC Motor in your shop or your garage with a Static or Rotary Phase Converter. Most houses have 110 and 240 VAC Single Phase Power. You can connect a Phase Converter and make your 3-Phase Motor run.
Now depending on the type of load (Motor's Application) will determine which Converter you will need. For a Lathe, Drill Press, or any application where the Motor do not start loaded you can use a Static Phase Converter. Static Converters will ONLY GIVE 2/3 of the Rated Motor's HP, that means you will not have full power but you can run your 3-Phase motor for a Lathe, Drill press, or any light to medium loads.
Now if you need to run an Air Compressor, Water Pump, AC Unit, etc. Where the Motors are always loaded at starting, then you will need a Rotary Phase Converter, those Converters will give FULL power, but you need to size the Properly. Most of the times you will need the Converter to be 2 times the size of your motor and in soem cases it has to be 3 times! depending on the application.
